“We Are Rich People…” Virender Sehwag Gave An Epic Reply To Gilchrist’s Question About Indian Players Playing In BBL

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is hailed as one of the most explosive hitters to have played the game of cricket. Though, he took retirement many years ago, but he is still a prominent name in the global cricketing scene.

While Sehwag’s remarkable achievements for the Indian team, including his historic triple century in Test cricket, are widely celebrated, but not many are aware of the fact that he received an offer from a Big Bash League (BBL) franchise in Australia.

Well, during a conversation with Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, Sehwag revealed that he was once offered $100,000 by a BBL team. However, he chose to decline the offer.

 

Virender Sehwag Gave An Epic Reply To Gilchrist’s Question About Indian Players Playing In BBL

The conversation started after Adam Gilchrist asked Sehwag whether Indian players would consider participating in other t20 leagues such as Big Bash League. Responding to Gilchrist’s question, Sehwag came up with a hilarious answer, suggesting that the Indian players are rich enough and therefore they may not feel the need to join other leagues.

Adam Gilchrist: Do you see a time where Indian players will ever be able to go & play other T20 leagues? (Club Prairie fire YT).

Virender Sehwag: “No, Don’t need. We are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries (laughs)”.

Sehwag then shared his own story when he turned down a big BBL contract. He revealed:

“No, Don’t need, we are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries for other leagues. I still remember when I was dropped from Indian team, I was playing IPL, then I got offer from BBL that I should participate in Big Bash, I said okay how much money, they said $100,000. I said I can spend that money in my holidays, even last night bill was more than $100,000.”

Currently, Sehwag is serving as a pundit for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In addition to providing analysis for players and franchises participating in the league, the former Indian opening batsman has also shared his expert insights on the Indian team selection for the T20 World Cup 2024.
