A new survey has found that 70.9 percent of the Chinese-funded enterprises in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plan to expand their businesses in the region, according to a Chinese trade association on Wednesday.

The survey, conducted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), indicated that most Chinese companies in ASEAN had a generally positive operating performance in 2023.

CCPIT spokesperson Zhang Xin said that the Chinese companies hope that ASEAN member countries will continue to improve their business environment, work to implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at a high-quality level, and further improve the level of liberalization and facilitation for trade and investment.

In November, 3,434 companies applied for the RCEP certificates of origin through CCPIT, up 12.4 percent year on year. These certificates will help Chinese products save an estimated $9 million in tariffs among the RCEP member countries.

Additionally, Chinese companies have broadly resumed participation in overseas exhibitions and events this year.

The CCPIT recorded 78 overseas exhibition projects being carried out this year, with more than half taking place in Asia. Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan were the most popular destinations.

Meanwhile, Zhang said that the CCPIT will continue to strengthen its management and service of overseas exhibitions and events, helping Chinese businesses secure deals and expand globally.
