Robin Uthappa Slammed Virat Kohli For His ‘Still Got It’ Comment

Kohli returned to the T20I squad against Afghanistan after not featuring in any games following the T20 World Cup 2022. With many young players showcasing aggressive cricket, doubts about Kohli’s place in the team for the upcoming mega event have arisen.

Yet, Virat Kohli has silenced all doubts and showcased his capabilities to the world. His outstanding form in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has earned him the prestigious Orange Cap, a testament to his exceptional performance.

Virat Kohli bounced back strongly after a modest performance in the match against Chennai Super Kings. In the subsequent game against Punjab Kings, he scored an impressive 77 runs, and in the following match against Kolkata Knight Riders, he played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 83 runs.

After his exceptional performance against Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli exuded confidence during the post-match presentation. He acknowledged that his name is still being used to promote the game, reaffirming his enduring ability and prowess on the field. He had said:

“I know my name is quite attached to just promoting the game in many parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket, but I have still got it I guess.”

Robin Uthappa responded to Virat Kohli’s remarks by expressing his belief that such comments were unnecessary from the batter, considering Kohli’s exceptional batting skills. Uthappa emphasized that Kohli’s talent with the bat sets him apart in the cricketing world.

Regarding Kohli’s aspirations to participate in the T20 World Cup, Uthappa highlighted that the final decision rests with the selectors. He conveyed these sentiments during an appearance on Jio Cinema. Uthappa said:

“I think what he even said at the last game felt so unnecessary. He didn’t have to say that because I think there was never a question in anyone’s mind about his ability or what he can bring to the table. As far as batting is concerned, he is a class act, but India hasn’t.

He added: “And he’s his intentions, alright, that he wants to be a part of that T20 World Cup. Well, it’s up to the selectors if they’re going to look at a young squad or if they’re going to go with the tried and tested veterans who’ve done really well for the country and for themselves and in the IPL in the past.”

Robin Uthappa also remarked that Virat Kohli has explicitly expressed his desire to represent India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and contribute to the team’s success by clinching the title. He said:

“So that’s up to the selectors. But he’s kind of stated, okay, I want to go now. I really want to go and give this one last score to get a T20 World Cup as well.”
