After 27 years, West Indies secured a historic Test win in Australia. Initially dismissed as hopeless and pathetic at the beginning of the series, the team jubilantly celebrated their success, exuberantly jumping around the stadium after securing a crucial draw in the series.
Pat Cummins Hailed Shamar Joseph
Australia faced heartbreak at the Gabba, losing to West Indies after 36 years. Captain Pat Cummins, in the post-match press conference, acknowledged the humbling nature of Test cricket, stating that even the mightiest of sides can be humbled by it. He congratulated Shamar Joseph’s efforts and deemed the 1-1 series result as a fair reflection. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Cummins said:
“Disappointment after the loss but it was a fantastic match, a fantastic series. The way Shamar bowled was right up there, unfortunately we weren’t good enough. We were pretty confident coming in today. Think we did well yesterday to restrict them to a 216-run target, thought we had a chance,”
He added: “I think we’ve all played enough to know this game humbles you quickly, as soon as you think you’re on top of the world, it pulls you down and you start from zero, I think the West Indies played brilliantly. They played really well, 1-1 is probably a pretty fair result for the series,”
Cummins also took to his social media and shared a picture of himself with Shamar Joseph, where they gifted each other their jerseys. Sharing the picture, Cummins wrote:
In his post-match comments after being awarded the Player of the Match, the pacer emphasized the importance of belief in the sacrifices he had made and reflected on his past achievements. He said:
“I was crying but those were tears of joy, knowing that I’m doing this for my team, those were just tears of joy and happiness. It is just about believing, made a lot of sacrifice to get here, remembering what you did back then and it is just to continue from what happened in the past, so I just stick to my basics and take advice from the seniors and that worked for me well,”
