Mark Boucher Says Rohit Sharma Could Be Playing His Last IPL Season; Video

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher has dropped another bombshell statement, saying that the MI management believes Rohit Sharma could well be playing in his IPL season in IPL 2024.

A lot has transpired behind the scenes in Mumbai Indians camp. From trading in Hardik Pandya to appointing the all-rounder as their new skipper, which meant that it ended Rohit Sharma’s captaincy stint during which Rohit led MI to all of their five IPL titles.

Earlier, Mark Boucher, the MI coach, had appeared on a podcast speaking about the change in MI captaincy. Then, Ritika Sajdeh, the wife of Rohit, had fired shots at Boucher with a comment, following which the video was deleted by the uploader.

Now, another video from the same interview has gone viral. In this video, Boucher spoke about one of the big reasons why Rohit Sharma was replaced as the captain.

Boucher said, “I just thought we are speaking with the whole Mumbai Indians group, we thought that maybe this is the opportunity for him to step in for his last year or so.”

In his first game of the IPL 2024 season, Rohit Sharma blasted 43 runs in 29 balls against Gujarat Titans. However, GT bowlers made a superb recovery and defended 168 by 6 runs.

MI couldn’t chase 48 in the last six overs with 7 wickets in hand. Hardik Pandya, the former GT skipper, cracked a six and a four in the last over, but holed out at long-on. Jasprit Bumrah’s sensational 3/14 went in vain as Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, and Spencer Johnson bowled exceedingly well in the death overs.

Pandya said, “One of those days when we see the score quite less compared to what it could have been in five overs, I think we lost little bit of momentum there.”

Mumbai’s next match is against SRH in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
