The Mahindra Thar over the last few years has proved that it is one tough off-road vehicle. We have seen this SUV doing some extraordinary stuff off the road. In addition, this SUV has even proved itself to be a worthy rescue vehicle as well. Recently, showing this exact capability, a video of a Mahindra Thar rescuing a truck stuck under a flyover in mud has been shared online. This rescue mission was first attempted by a crane. However, it could not finish the task.
Mahindra Thar rescues truck stuck in mud
This video of the Mahindra Thar rescuing a truck has been shared on Instagram by I Lost Dimension. It starts off with a shot of a truck getting strapped to a crane under a flyover. It can be noted that there is a very large puddle, and the entire road has become muddy and slippery. Most likely because of this, the truck got stuck.
Crane fails to rescue the truck
After this, the video shows that following a few tugs, the strap broke. This particular strap was attached to the boom of the crane, and it was attached at an angle. The crane then backs off the road and makes way for the Mahindra Thar to come and rescue this truck from its situation.
Mahindra Thar takes charge
Soon after this, a red Mahindra Thar is seen coming in front of the truck. It drives through the puddle and then reverses to strap the truck to the tow hook of the SUV. The video then shows a person attaching the strap to the truck’s front bumper and Mahindra Thar’s rear tow hook.
Next up, the driver of the Thar starts driving the SUV slowly. During this, we can note that the Mahindra Thar easily comes out of this situation, and along with it, the truck also gets rescued. At one point, the Thar was slipping on the muddy terrain; however, it still manages to march forward and complete the rescue mission.
Mahindra Thar off-road features
In terms of off-road equipment that make the Mahindra Thar very capable, it comes equipped with a manual shift part-time 4WD. It gets a low-range transfer case with a manual shifter. This transfer case can switch between 2H (two-wheel drive), 4H (four-wheel drive), N (neutral), and 4L (crawl ratio).
Apart from this, the Thar is also offered with an electronically controlled brake locking differential. This prevents slip at each axle to keep the Thar moving. Additionally, it also comes with hill hold and hill descent control; both of these come in handy during off-roading expeditions.
Mahindra Thar engines
Mahindra offers the Thar with multiple engine options. These include a 2.2-liter diesel engine that produces around 130 horsepower and generates approximately 320 Nm of torque. It also comes with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine generating 150 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque.
Both petrol and diesel engines are available with manual and automatic gearbox options. Additionally, there is an RWD variant as well, which comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This motor makes 119 Bhp and 300 Nm of torque.
