Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in ICC Champions Trophy 2025? Indian cricket team scripted history in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on June 29. The managed to win the T20 World Cup without losing any game in the whole tournament. It was heartwarming and emotional moment for all the players and the Indian fans. The championship win ended the drought of 11 years for India without any ICC trophy. In this tenure and period, India have qualified for the semi finals and final. However, they haven’t been able to pass the final hurdle. However, this time around, Rohit Sharma’s team did go the extra step and managed to bring the cup home.

Rohit Sharma and Team India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad against Australia. They were ruthless in the tournament and won all the 10 games in the lead up to the final. However, they had one bad day and that came in the night of the final. Senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ere heartbroken as they gave their all.

However, this time around, they ended on the happier side as they managed to clinch the T20 World Cup. However, after the final, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20I’s. This paved the way for younger players to stake their claim and prepare for the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India.

Meanwhile, next year, there is a ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan. It is still not sure whether India will travel to Pakistan for the tournament. However, Jay Shah, BCCI’s secretary, did clarify that senior players with the likes of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja will be available for that 50 over ICC tournament in 2025.

“Transition has already happened with three greats retiring. The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there,” he added.

Although, Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja have retired from T20I’s, they are still available for ODI’s ad the test format. India will also be aiming to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship final in 2025 and win it.
