Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team’s captain, has shared his intentions to keep playing cricket for another 2-3 years. He’s also expressed his ambition to lead the team to victory in the World Cup, highlighting it as his main goal.
Last year, Rohit Sharma led the Indian cricket team to the brink of victory in two ICC tournaments: the World Test Championship in June and the 50-over World Cup in November, both held in India. However, on both occasions, Australia, led by Pat Cummins, thwarted India’s hopes of securing their first international title since the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma Revealed His Retirement Plans
Rohit Sharma, currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, has provided strong starts alongside fellow opener Ishan Kishan. This marks the first season since Mumbai Indians’ 2013 title victory where Rohit isn’t leading the team. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has taken over as captain, guiding the team to victories after initial setbacks.
Mumbai Indians have secured victories against two struggling teams this season, namely Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC). Their winning streak began against DC at Wankhede Stadium, where they set a formidable target of 235 runs, the third-highest of the season, ultimately winning by 29 runs.
In that match, Rohit Sharma led the charge for Mumbai Indians, particularly in the initial overs, aiming to score as many runs as possible. His aggressive batting suggested he was poised for a significant innings, but DC all-rounder Axar Patel dismissed him with a brilliant arm ball that hit the stumps.
In a recent conversation with Gaurav Kapur on the “Breakfast with Champions” podcast, Rohit Sharma expressed his confidence in continuing to play competitive cricket for a few more years. Specifically, he mentioned that he believes he has 2-3 years of cricket left in him and feels he is still performing well at the age of 36. He said:
