In a thrilling game at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their second win of the season by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 7 wickets. Chasing a target of 197 runs, MI chased it down comfortably with 27 balls to spare.

Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant bowling performance, picking five wickets for 21 runs, played an instrumental role in Mumbai’s stellar win. Despite RCB posting a competitive total of 196 runs, all thanks to Dinesh Karthik’s late surge, MI’s batting lineup proved too strong for the RCB bowlers.

Mumbai Indians opening batter Ishan Kishan’s quick fifty, provided a strong start to the team with a partnership of 101 runs in just 49 balls. Contributions from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav further boosted MI’s position in the game. SKY’s aggressive innings, scoring 52 runs off just 19 balls, was crucial in guiding MI to success.

RCB’s bowlers struggled to restrict MI’s relentless attack, highlighted by SKY’s three sixes in one over. Despite his dismissal, Hardik Pandya’s quick cameo of 21 runs sealed the win for Mumbai Indians.

With this win, the Hardik Pandya-led side climbed to the 7th position in the IPL points table, having secured 2 wins in 5 matches. Meanwhile, RCB remained in the 9th position with just 1 win in 6 matches, underlining their challenges in the tournament.

Meanwhile, fans on social media trolled RCB bowlers left, right, and center after their poor performance against MI batters. Check out the reactions of fans:

After the match, RCB’s skipper Faf du Plessis admitted that their team lacked sufficient strength in the bowling department. As a result, he emphasizes that the batsmen will need to step up to compensate for this weakness in future IPL matches. He said:

“I feel like from a batting perspective, we have to push for that 200. We don’t have as many weapons in our bowling. So it comes down to the batting.”

He added: “From a bowling perspective, we have lacked penetration. We have to get them two or three down in the powerplay. Always feels like we are on the back foot after the first four overs,”

Du Plessis believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore fell short of a winning score, attributing this to the significant impact of dew in the second innings. He said:

Very tough pill to swallow. It was very wet out there, it will be nice to win a toss somehow. Credit to MI how they came out and made our bowlers make a lot of mistakes. Anyone that came in and found the middle of the bat.”

He added: “We spoke about it . We knew the dew would play a big part. We needed 215-220. 190 wasn’t enough. It is a big thing at some venues. When the dew settles in, it was very tough. We changed the ball many times. It is the only sport where the changes in conditions make a difference,”
