Dashboard Camera Captures Wrong Side Driving Menace

Wrong side driving is a menace in India, especially at the densely populated regions. Here is a video recorded on the dashboard camera of Hyundai Venue N-Line that shows a high-speed crash between the car and a motorcycle riding on the wrong side of the road.

The video shared by the owner of the car says that accident happened when he was travelling from Hyderabad. The video shows a four-lane highway and the vehicles doing a decent speed too. There is an autorickshaw on the left lane while the bus is occupying the right lane. To overtake the auto, the Venue driver slips behind the bus. As soon as he overtakes the auto rickshaw, the driver of the Venue gives turn indicator and starts changing lane to overtake the bus.

However, as soon as he goes to his left, a biker riding in the middle of the road came from the opposite direction. This did not give the car driver any chance to react and the biker crashed into the car.

According to the video, the locals gathered around and extorted Rs 5,000 for the accident from the car owner as a compensation to the biker.

Driving on wrong side on highways

Driving on the wrong side of the road might seem like a shortcut to save time and fuel, but it can have severe consequences. It’s crucial to always stay in the correct lane, especially on highways. If you find yourself compelled to use the wrong lane, it’s advisable to avoid the fastest lane, as it is often used for overtaking by other vehicles.

In numerous instances, when highways and expressways are constructed, access roads for local communities are often neglected by contractors or authorities. This leads locals to use the highways, and due to the absence of nearby U-Turns, they resort to driving on the wrong side to reach their destination more quickly and cut down on distance.

In India, the concept of right-of-way is not well-established, so it’s recommended to reduce speed when approaching a crossing to ensure road safety. Additionally, while traveling on highways, it’s prudent to slow down when passing through populated areas like towns and villages. Despite designated pedestrian crossings, many people choose to cross the highway randomly to save time, and there’s a considerable risk of encountering stray animals and cattle in these areas.

Maintaining a safe speed on highways is paramount, especially given the common occurrence of locals driving on the wrong side of the road, particularly near settlements or urban areas along the highways.

Install dashboard camera

The dashboard in your car is really handy in many situations. The standard dashboard camera that comes with Hyundai’s Venue N-Line and the Exter recorded the whole thing. But you can also buy and install aftermarket dashboard cameras from different brands for your vehicle. These cameras are useful for capturing accidents and crimes that happen on public roads. The recordings they make provide important evidence when accidents occur, making it easier to process insurance claims.

Many of these high-quality cameras can even detect motion and capture footage if someone tries to mess with your vehicle. So, having a dashboard camera is a smart investment. It’s not only for your own safety but also to avoid tricky situations. Everyone should consider getting one.
