“Cricket Can Be Played….” – Sunil Gavaskar Slammed Harshit Rana For Disrespecting Mayank Agarwal

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar criticized Harshit Rana’s gesture towards Mayank Agarwal during the recent IPL match. Rana, who played a crucial role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ victory, blew a kiss to Agarwal after dismissing him. Gavaskar didn’t approve of this action.

The crowd cheered for Harshit Rana’s gesture during the match, but IPL officials and Sunil Gavaskar disapproved. Rana was fined 60% of his match fees by the league authorities. However, Gavaskar believed the penalty was unnecessary. Despite this, Rana played a crucial role in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ victory with his performance in the last six deliveries.

“Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 per cent and 50 per cent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.” – IPL’s media advisory read.

Sunil Gavaskar, commenting during the IPL, criticized Harshit Rana’s flying kiss gesture towards Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal was playing aggressively, hitting boundaries off various KKR bowlers. Although Agarwal seemed upset by the gesture, he didn’t react negatively. Gavaskar advised Rana to control his emotions and celebrate with his teammates instead. Speaking after the match, Gavaskar said:

“He should not have done that. Did the batsman do anything to him when he was hitting him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics. It’s the age of television. I understand that. Celebrate with your teammates but no need for such antics for the opposition.”

Harshit Rana’s send-off to Agarwal wasn’t well received, but his performance in the final over was remarkable. Facing the challenging task of defending 13 runs against dangerous batsmen like Klaasen and Ahmed, Rana took the responsibility. Despite conceding a six on the first ball, he managed to dismiss both Ahmed and Klaasen, securing a crucial victory for his team.
