Ashish Nehra Backed Shubman Gill For The Captaincy Role

Gujarat Titans are entering a new phase without Hardik Pandya, and their head coach, Ashish Nehra, is confident in the team’s new captain, Shubman Gill, calling him the ‘right guy’ for the role.

Gujarat Titans have enjoyed significant success in the two years since they joined the Indian Premier League. The franchise clinched the title in their debut season under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. In the following season, they came close to lifting the trophy again but narrowly missed out, losing to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Ashish Nehra Backed Shubman Gill For The Captaincy Role

In a surprising move, Hardik Pandya shifted to Mumbai Indians during the trade window ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. This decision compelled Gujarat Titans to explore new leadership, ultimately entrusting the captaincy to the young Shubman Gill.

Speaking on the matter, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra mentioned on Wednesday that despite Shubman’s youth, his composed mindset played a crucial role in making him the ideal candidate to lead the team. Nehra said:

IPL is a fast game and it throws challenges for everyone. We have seen how Shubman Gill has been playing for three-four years and how he has shaped up. He is 24-25 but he has a good head on his shoulders. We are there to support him. We believe in him that’s why we have made him the captain,”

Nehra also added that he is not too bothered about the results. He added:

“I am not someone who will always go by results. There are so many other things too. Yes, everyone strives for results. Everyone looks for results. But when it comes to captaincy, you must see different things. We are very confident that Shubman is the right guy,”
