1.5 Crore Mercedes GLS Luxury SUV Seized For Driving Without Numberplate [Video]

One of the most important and necessary things to have on a car is a registration plate. However, despite this, some people think that they can get away with driving their car without a registration plate. Now, a lot of these people do actually get away with such things. However, at some point, they also end up with their vehicle being seized. Recently, in a similar case, a Mercedes Benz GLS 400d was seized by Odisha police for not having a number plate.

Mercedes Benz GLS 400d Seized for Not Having Number Plates

As per the reports, a few days ago, a white-colored Mercedes Benz GLS 400d luxury car was seized by the Commissionerate Police. This particular car was seized in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, as it was being driven without a number plate. When the driver was asked why it was being driven without any registration number, he failed to answer the question.

Following this, the luxury SUV was seized by the traffic police and brought to the police station. At the moment, who exactly owns this particular car has not been reported. Also, it has not been reported why this Rs 1.54 crore Mercedes SUV was being driven without a number plate.

Official Statement

During an interview with a local media outlet, Traffic ACP Jayant Dora stated, “If someone drives a vehicle without a registration number or with a fancy number, we will seize it. The vehicle will be handed over to its owner only when he produces the release order.”

Dora also added, “If an occupant shows documents as to why the vehicle doesn’t have a registration number, we will let him go. Otherwise, we will take stringent action against him. So, I would like to request people not to drive vehicles without number plates or with a fancy number plate.”

Mercedes Benz GLS 400d

As stated above, the Mercedes Benz GLS 400d is the top-of-the-line 7-seater SUV sold by the German luxury carmaker in India. The SUV is priced at Rs 1.54 crore in India. It comes powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine. This engine produces 326 bhp of power and 700 Nm of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Odisha Police Also Seized Other Luxury Cars

Back in March of this year, Odisha Police also seized a number of luxury cars because their drivers were drunk. These luxury cars included Porsche Cayenne, BMW X7, Mercedes Benz EQC, and a Range Rover Velar.

Apart from these, Odisha police also seized an Audi A4, Toyota Innova Crysta, 2 Hyundai Cretas, Maruti Suzuki Swift, and Renault Kiger. Additionally, there was a Toyota Fortuner, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and a Tata Nexon as well.

The Commissionerate Police seized these vehicles as the drivers of these high-end cars were found under the influence of alcohol. After seizure, all of these cars were taken to the Traffic Police Station-II at Patrapada in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha Police, in order to curb drinking and driving in the state, has announced strict actions. It has stated that any driver found drunk for the first time will have their vehicle seized and be asked to appear in front of the court.

After this, if the same person is caught for the second time, his vehicle will be seized again. Additionally, this time, his license will be canceled. If the same thing happens for the third time, the vehicle will be seized again. However, this time their driving license will be canceled, and also the registration of the vehicle will be canceled.
